Crocus Grove Sun Club Holds Important Meeting
Crocus Grove Sun Club held their first general membership meeting of 2010 on May 2. In addition to routine business matters, two major topics were discussed.First, a brief report was delivered that outlined the extensive efforts made by club members during the winter months in support of Sandhill Pine's stated desire to remain a clothing-optional campground. In spite of those efforts, and despite excellent early results from the winter promotional campaign, Sandhill Pines announced without notice on April 13 that they had decided to end clothing-optional use and become a regular campground. The report also detailed unsuccessful efforts made to persuade campground owners to reverse their decision, and unsuccessful efforts made by club representatives to purchase the campground from the owners.
The second major topic of discussion was The Legacy Project — a plan to preserve social nudism in Manitoba through the acquisition of new land for the club. It was proposed that this land be put into a trust that would permanently designate it for nude use. This would ensure that what had just happened to our club (the loss of the campground we had called home for 40 years) could never happen again. Preliminary details of how this trust would operate were presented, as were the criteria that would be used for a property search. Also discussed were details of a plan to self-finance the property.
Members were then informed that a substantial amount of money had already been pledged towards the purchase of new land. Pledges from those in attendance were subsequently invited, tallied and added to the "fundraising thermometer" displayed at the front of the room. The amount pledged was more than enough to justify advancing to the next step in the project — an active land search.
The meeting closed with a nearly unanimous show of support for The Legacy Project.
