Work continues on the swimming pool
The Urban Life crew was now ready to being assembling the plumbing and mechanical equipment for the new pool (see the Pool Plan View PDF). As these pictures attest, this was no small thing! The concrete equipment pad was quickly filled with a pump, filter, chlorine feeder, heater and all sorts of piping that included no less than sixteen valves! The trench between the equipment pad and pool quickly turned into a "spaghetti factory" of rigid and flexible white pipes. Two main drains were plumbed into the bottom of the pool while connections were added to the pool walls for skimmers and return lines. With the plumbing in place, attention turned to the final preparation of the pool bottom. Fine sand would typically be trucked in for this step but our own previously excavated sand proved quite suitable for the purpose. Once sloping, smoothing and packing was complete, it was all hands on deck for installing the new pool liner. A blower was used to evacuate air from between the pool wall and liner as water began to slowly fill the pool. The main drains were cut into the liner before the water got too deep. The skimmers and returns would be cut in after the pool was full. We promptly completed the chain link fence so that access to the pool could be controlled. CJ Electric Ltd. of Beausejour had by this time been on site to wire the pool equipment and connect it to power. It didn't take long for the new pool filter to clear the greenish tint from the water. These photographs from my personal collection were taken in May 2012. Click or tap below to view larger photos.
