THE NATURIST LEGACY FILES
Front yard receives a makeover
Miller's Trucking of Winnipeg Beach, the company that delivered the beach sand for Naturist Legacy Park's volleyball court, brought a huge bulldozer to push, level and pack it. Seeing this unexpectedly large machine on site gave me an idea. The park's "front yard" near the main highway contained several large mounds consisting of soil, composted manure and other debris left over from when the land was farmed. I inquired about how much extra it would cost to clear those piles for us. Because the bulldozer was already on site for the beach sand project, the fee requested by the machine's owner for this additional work was very reasonable. We accepted his offer and asked him to proceed. Not only did he break apart the unsightly piles and push them into the bush, he also used the heavy ripper attached to the back of his bulldozer to grub out several boulders and large stumps. The appearance of the park's front yard was instantly transformed! It took many days of volunteer labour to collect all the unearthed debris and to smooth out the roughly-scraped ground. I was genuinely surprised and delighted to see how quickly thick grass re-established itself in this compost-rich soil (the last three pictures below were taken just two and a half months later). These photographs from my personal collection were taken in July and September 2012.
